Chris Ames

Creative Strategist

“Mary Ruefle says, ‘Someone reading a book is a sign of order in the world.’ I couldn’t agree more. The best writing feels like an epiphany. In everything I make, I try to lead with empathy and curiosity.”

On the simplest level, Chris oversees putting words in the right order. Whether it’s reinventing brand language, creating campaigns, or writing posts on Emotive Brand’s blog, he strives to make things clean, concise, and memorable. With a diverse background in fiction, journalism, illustration, and branding, he’s always on the lookout for creative and off-kilter ways to tell a story.

Hopping around California, Chris was born in Los Angeles, grew up in San Diego, and now lives in Oakland. He studied Creative Writing at San Francisco State University on a full-ride scholarship. Before joining Emotive Brand, Chris worked at a high-paced startup and creative studio, ViewFind, where he wrote for Intel, Lenovo, Hearst, Ad Council, and many others. When he’s not writing for brands, he publishes fiction and illustrations in many small journals you’ve probably never heard of.
